Disasters and sustainable development: A case study from Kumaun Himalaya

Kumaun Himalaya is geologically very active and sensitive for tectonics slope instability that reasons a disasters occurrence as common problem either natural or man-made. This region highly prone to landslides, earthquakes, cloudbursts, glacial bursts, flash floods many more man-made activities causing disasters. Disasters are undesirable sudden events which cause physical, human, economic environmental losses exceed the coping capability of affected community society. Natural hazards in extreme conditions can be Metrological, Hydrological, Climatological Geophysical often caused due human actions may occur form technological (dam construction, mining, forest fire pandemics etc.). Uncontrolled forms result desertification other problems. In such situation sustainable development required because it “Development meets needs present, without any compromising ability future generation meet their own needs”. Therefore quality components has checked keeping mind concepts sustainability. paper discusses causes effects by geological sensitivity. The most effective way address adopt pathway modifying present environmentally technologies promotion energy efficiency, renewable energy, conservation, reforestation water conservation etc. Addressing requires good scientific understanding well coordinated action at ‘Vocal Local’.
